Description:
This tabletop exercise presents a fictitious scenario in which anthrax spores are intentionally released via an aerosol dispersal device into a crowded shopping mall, prompting the need for local assessments leading to a request to activate the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS). The exercise emphasizes policy issues in addition to operational procedures relevant to incident command systems. The exercise helps participants prepare for similar events by examining the issues relevant to SNS activation and mass dispensing.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify some of the participating organization's current strengths and gaps in relation to SNS activation
- Review and list the various roles, functions, and procedures involved in SNS activation
- Identify issues relevant to SNS activation and preparing for mass dispensing, e.g., policies, resources, communication, coordination, data management, and mental health needs
