Description:
This training module offered by the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, which is divided into two parts, gives the viewer an introduction to communicable disease law in North Carolina. The first part provides an overview of public health's legal authority in NC to control communicable diseases, and the legal issues surrounding the detection and investigation of communicable diseases. The second part focuses on communicable disease control measures.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify the legal authority for public health agencies to act to control communicable disease (CD)
- Describe the legal issues that arise when public health systems seek to detect and investigate CD cases and outbreaks
- Explain how federal medical privacy law affects CD detection and investigation
- Determine common legal issues in CD control
